Hi everyone,

We bring National Poetry Month to a dynamic close this week at the Rose O'Neill Literary House. First, on Tuesday April 27, four-time National Poetry Slam champion and National Book Award finalist Patricia Smith will be reading/performing on what we expect to be a packed LitHouse porch. Come early to secure a good seat! The event begins at 5:00pm.

Earlier that day, Patricia will be featured guest at "Spoken Word Assembly," a month long spoken word & performance poetry workshop we've organized and inaugurated this spring with 30 students at Kent County High School. You can read the Chestertown Spy's coverage of that program here.

Blood Dazzler

We conclude our National Poetry Month programming on Wednesday, April 28 with the Beacham-Warner reading and reception with special guest poet Susan Tichy, a professor in the MFA program at George Mason University. Come meet our award-winning student writers and hear excerpts from the award-winning works before Professor Tichy takes the podium -- Alyse Bensel, winner of the 2009 Warner Prize, and Jacki Bower, winner of the 2009 Beacham Prize, will be reading from their prize-winning pieces.

We hope to see you at both events.

Finally, the Rose O'Neill Literary House is pleased to announce that it is offering a series of summer creative writing workshops for high school aged students (rising freshman to rising seniors) on June 19 and July 10. Watch for more information on our "Spoken Word Saturdays" here and on our soon-to-be-premiered new website later this month. And if you know high school-aged creative writers who might like to participate in these summer Saturday workshops, please ask them to contact today Kathryn Bursick for more information and an application.
